“What is Metadata?” It is the most general question that many of us have today. Though people refer it as “metadata” or else “meta data”, both are considered as same terms as per Google search engine. So, let us know what exactly is the metadata, its importance and how does it affects you.

what is meta data

Metadata:

In generals terms it is defined as, Metadata gives the information about the data that is present in a website or a blog post.

Here, the word Meta has a Greek root, which means ‘beyond’ and ‘after’ also extended to ‘about’. ‘About’ is the meaning or definition which is related to blog post or web page and this is the meaning considered in the above definition.

The more accurate definition for the metadata would be, Metadata is the information which you present to the search engine and that is not visible for visitors of the blog or a website i.e., humans can’t view metadata unless they view the source code of the web page.

Why is it Necessary?

To describe the various elements of a blog post or else a blog page, webmasters use this Metadata. With this, search engine algorithm will create the content relevance of that page with the search terms used by visitors in that particular search engine for finding the data or else information.

Metadata in Head and Body Sections of Source Code:

If you observe the source code of a web page it will be in HTML. You can see the source code by righting clicking on anywhere of the webpage and navigating through ‘View Page Source’ from the menu you have seen after the right click. It is the browser that automatically converts the source code in to a web page or a blog page.

Metadata in ‘Head’ Section

The source code of a web page contains ‘Head’ section at the top. It tells the browser that it shouldn’t be visible for humans. However it is visible for spiders of the search engine which crawl your blog or website and uses the Metadata that is present in the Head part for calculating the relevance to any of the search terms used by people.

Metadata in ‘Body’ Section

Below the head section you can find ‘Body’ section which is visible to the people. But, humans can’t see some Metadata in the body section too which is used for SEO purpose and is visible only for search engines.

Importance of Metadata:

Metadata can be of many forms and huge portion of it is generated by using the software by the webhosting service. It is better not to change them rather you can change the below mentioned elements.

Mainly there are four important forms of Metadata or Meta tags which are essential for your SEO and which can affect your search engine rankings. Though some of them are common, some may not be familiar to you. It is necessary that you need to check the content of these Meta tags and make sure that they match with your focused keyword or the blog post that you looking to rank in the search engine. The four Meta Tags and their importance is as shown below.

Page Meta Title Tag

This tag appears in the ‘Head’ section of the source code for the web page or a blog page / post. In this tag, you must use the main or principle phrase or else a keyword as it is the major and the first one the Google indexing as well as ranking algorithms will look for.

In the Google search engine results pages (SERPS) of Google for any search term, you can see the title for any listing that is copied from Title tag. Google will take the fixed width of title from the title tag. If it exceeds the limit, the title will be displayed with ‘….’ in place of last word of the title. So, it is necessary that the page title should be of fixed width as per the search engine.

If you are unable to provide the Title tag, Google will take the snippet of the content or text from the web page which may or may not be reader friendly.

Description Meta Tag

The description Meta tag should have the main theme of content of your blog post or page with the phrase or keyword according to your theme. This content is displayed just below the Title in the Google SERPs. Same as the title tag, if you don’t provide the description tag, Google will take first few words that are relevant to the search term.

Metadata in Body

Many people are unaware of this Metadata in body which is nothing but ‘Alt’ attribute. They generally think that Metadata appears only in the Head section. This ‘Alt’ attribute is used in the HTML source code for audio, video or for image files.

Robots Meta Tag

It enables you to control how each page of your website of blog is indexed in your search engines. If you have any restrictions or if you don’t want to include a page in the index of your Google search engine, then you need to place the Meta tag with meta name as ‘robots’ and content to ‘noindex’ in the Head section of the source code.

If you don’t have any restrictions, it is not necessary to use this attribute and Google will visit every page of your website. Though, Google will prefer you for including the robots.txt in the root directory of your website.

Keywords Meta Tag

Google will not use this keyword Metadata. It even doesn’t affect your rankings. So, you don’t have to consider this or else if you feel it is necessary, you can include six main keywords. Though they don’t improve rankings, they are helpful for blogs that are being searched with specific keywords.
These are the four Meta tags that have an important role in the Google SERPs. As metadata is directed to Google search engine, it is very particular in carrying out your instructions and applying it on such data. So, make sure that your instructions are clear so that it directs to the important areas of your website.

SEO For Page Titles

SEO is one of the vital factors behind any successful site. And everybody knows the world SEO is full of mystery and filled with many kind of important aspects.

Title tags are one of them. A webpage title tag is also recognized by title tags or title element, which is written in the coding of the page, and generally it look like this – <title> The Title of the page is Written Here <title>.

I think you might have notice that the title tags isn’t straight forwardly displayed to the visitor on a particular page, but it can be perceive in two most important places- on the search result pages ( the blue clickable link on top of description and url) and in the social media websites ( when someone likes, shares, +1, the page). The two most significant places where title tags are shown are exceptionally valuable from an SEO approaching.

You should keep in mind that, the title element should attract to both humans and search engines and must obtain a correct balance among being convincing and being truthful. And title tags should be brief, explanatory, include proper keywords and draw attention of users and tempt people to click on it.

Also, it should be catchy – to both other titles on your site and the title your competitors are using for providing a solid opening to rank for various keywords. Are you ready to accomplish this and optimize title tags for search engines? I am sure you are, so get ready and scroll down below for discovering the strategies.

Keywords

If you’re not putting your targeted keywords within your title then it becomes difficult. To rank a keyword you need to be linked with the same keyword which depends on other people’s activity.

Search engines makes main words “bold” to match the search query. Thus, you should bold your main keywords to highlight but don’t over optimize it.

If you’re writing on long tail keyword then I’ll recommend you to add that in the beginning so it could help you with search ranking and CTR.

Length

It’s vital that you should maintain your tittles length within 50-55 characters. If it exceeds this limit then it’ll be replaced by …. And it doesn’t look well for sure. Also, short tittles are more effective to increase readers and CTR.

But you can join your keywords to make it little longer. You need to balance it properly as you need to manage both search engines and readership as well.

Descriptive

A proper description leads your readers to scroll down for further reading but if your topics aren’t match viewers expectation then they’ll click back button at once and increase your bounce rate, decrease in spending time and loss of readers.

Branding

If you’ve available space then it’s worthy to put your business in front of your visitors. It’s a good opportunity to spark your business on top of the visits. Build a business a page according to your niche so you can obtain maximum exposure.

Presentation

Bold is a simplistic font (looks) but you can manage and specify particular words by a, an, and hyphens.

A superb presentation gives your article an extra edge. So, be consistent and make stylish your content for better outcome.

How Many Keywords You Target

What is the difference between majority bloggers and expert internet marketers? Well I think you know it and it is SEO. But I’m not here to bore with something that you’re familiar. I want to step inside of SEO right now to discuss about keywords.

I’m sure that you’re playing with it since you have been started your online journey. Therefore you know its importance for both traffic and earning into your blog but you couldn’t able to reach your goals or I say you failed on it. Hmm!! I can understand your situation because I’ve faced it too.
So how could you unleash your blog’s potential through proper keyword selection or should I say how many keyword your target??

How Many Keywords You Target In A Post

First of all, don’t focus on singular keywords only, try to search with related terms otherwise you may not stand a chance if you pick one keywords which has huge competition, so it’s going to be super duper difficult task for you to rank.

But that doesn’t mean that you browse 25, 40, 50 or 60 keywords. You will not get correct resources as it has mixed with lot of keywords. It’s interacting clearly for ranking any article.

Also you need to remember that Google doesn’t like keyword stuffed post but if you do still then you’ll not going to rank for sure.

I suggest you to choose medium and low competition with five keywords all together if you’ve a new blog or business although you may target further but it depends on your skill, time and content quality.
To some businesses, that might not seem a lot, but targeting 5 keywords doesn’t mean that your website will only rank for 5 keywords and get traffic from 5 keywords.

You’ve picked five keywords, so you can rank with those five topics as well as other related terms which are included into your post. Let me elaborate for you.

For instance, your focus keyword is “Build Backlinks” and if you’ve mentioned “10 effective ways to build backlinks” then you could rank on this searched query. Because Google prefers useful and creative content for the users so if you’re content is full of usefulness then you‘ll rank on both short and long keywords.

Thus, you can mention your prime keyword with above long tail to receive direct traffic from both phrases. But it’s quite difficult to find appropriate long competitive keywords due to less search results although if can do it smartly and consistently then you might unlock your blog’ next level. Nobody is going to give you treasure, so find it by yourself. Therefore, you can mix your targeted keyword with high to low to seek out the best for you.

Keep experiment and discover your suitable topic. I believe that you’ll notice change in your blog or business. It might go slow at first but you’ll receive consistent result soon.

What is your takeaway???

Experiment with top five high to low competitive keywords and seek out long-tail topics
Cover main keywords as well as extra related keywords to gather attract organic traffic and increase earning.
